“How much does it cost?” is every yacht owner’s first question when they begin researching Starlink Maritime. It is a legitimate question that deserves an honest answer.

The reality is that the cost depends on multiple factors specific to each vessel: its length, the type of installation required, the navigation zone and the data plan that best suits your sailing patterns. That is why MaritLink does not publish generic price lists — we prepare personalised quotations for each case.

What we can do is explain what each cost component involves, so you arrive at the consultation with the right questions.

Component 1: Hardware

Hardware is the upfront cost. The Starlink Maritime kit includes:

• Flat High Performance Antenna — SpaceX’s marine antenna. Compact, low profile, electronic satellite tracking with no moving parts.
• WiFi 6 Router
• Power and data cable — UV-resistant and salt-rated for exterior use
• Base mounting plate

This hardware is the client’s property. There are no rental costs or mandatory renewal unless you wish to upgrade to a newer model in the future.

Component 2: Professional installation

This is the component that varies most. The factors that influence installation cost are:

• Vessel length and type: a 12-metre ocean sailing vessel is a very different proposition from a 55-metre superyacht.
• Level of integration: from a standard installation with external cabling to a full integration with the vessel’s network switch, entertainment system and separate networks for guests and crew.
• Cable routing complexity: passing cabling through the vessel’s interior structure with no visible cables requires more time and work.
• Port of installation: technician availability varies by location.

Component 3: Data plans

The operator’s catalogue changed on 27 August 2026; what decides the bill is the plan family, not the name.

Personal plans

Roam and, since 27/08/2026, “Personal Maritime” for non-commercial vessels under 40 ft. They cover territorial waters (up to 12 nm) and land; offshore, data is billed per GB (“Ocean Mode”, with a price rise announced for 27/09/2026). Built for small, privately used boats — not charter or superyachts.

Priority plans, regional or global

For yachts, charter, superyachts and vessels that cross oceans. Regional scope covers one zone (the Mediterranean, say); global has no geographic restriction — the option for ocean passages and circumnavigators. Offshore data is included within the contracted scope, and the whole-month pause (with an annual allowance) is requested through MaritLink.

Operator tariffs change and we do not publish them here — we give you the current ones when we talk about your case. What can be explained in advance is how the families rank, which is what actually decides the bill.

The jump between a regional and a global plan is the biggest step in the table, and it is the most common buying mistake: a global plan gets signed up for “just in case” on a boat that never leaves the Mediterranean.

The upfront investment

Two items, and they behave very differently:

The installation range is wide for a specific reason: on a yacht it is not enough that it works — it must not be visible. A standard mount on the radar arch and a flush composite installation colour-matched to the deck finish are two different jobs, and the second costs what it costs.

Installation depends on your vessel: the firm figure comes from the pre-installation survey, not from a table.

Starlink vs. VSAT: the economic advantage

One of Starlink’s strongest arguments against conventional VSAT systems is economic. VSAT systems require large, high-cost hardware, complex and expensive installations, and 12-24 month minimum contracts with high monthly fees.

Starlink offers compact hardware at a significantly lower price, simpler installation and no mandatory commitment. For a yacht with moderate-to-intensive use, the saving over three years can be very considerable — with superior speed and latency performance.

As of September 2026 and per the operator’s published terms, there is no activation cost or plan-change fee; commitment length and any penalty depend on the plan and go in the proposal.
