Starlink for Yachts: Everything You Need to Know in 2026
Real ocean coverage, genuine speeds and discreet installation. Starlink Maritime is the connectivity benchmark for yachts, sailboats and superyachts — and getting it right depends on choosing the right plan and installer.

For most cruising yacht owners, the answer in 2026 is yes — with one condition: you need the maritime-specific hardware and plan, not a residential subscription taken aboard.
Genuine ocean coverage
Over 6,000 LEO satellites deliver consistent signal across the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Pacific and most ocean passages. Coverage does not stop at the 12-mile limit. Data from Atlantic crossings shows 100–180 Mbps at 2,000+ nm offshore.
Speeds that work for modern life
80–250 Mbps download, 25–60ms latency. Enough for HD video calls from the cockpit, 4K streaming in every cabin, high-resolution GRIB weather routing, and remote work for the entire crew — simultaneously.
Flexible economics
No long-term contracts. Monthly pause option for seasonal owners — you only pay for the months the boat is in the water. Lower hardware and installation cost than VSAT. No commitment beyond the sailing season.
Safety, not just convenience
Real-time weather routing, emergency onshore communication and NAVTEX integration. Starlink does not replace an EPIRB or SSB radio, but it gives ocean sailors access to the same weather models professional forecasters use — from 1,500 miles offshore.
Starlink Plans for Yachts: 2026 Overview
All yacht plans require the Flat High Performance antenna — the only Starlink terminal rated for permanent exterior marine installation. Plan selection depends on where you sail.
| Plan | Coverage zone | Typical speed | Monthly pause | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maritime Mobile | One configurable region | 80–200 Mbps | ✓ Yes | Mediterranean, coastal European waters, single-region cruising |
| Maritime Mobile Priority | One region, priority data | Up to 220 Mbps | ✓ Yes | Charter vessels, heavy users, superyachts with multiple simultaneous users |
| Maritime Global | Global — no restrictions | 80–250 Mbps | ✓ Yes | Atlantic crossings, Caribbean winters, circumnavigations, multi-ocean routes |
Starlink Flat High Performance
The only Starlink terminal designed for permanent exterior marine installation. The Starlink Mini is a portable consumer device — not rated for offshore use and not recommended as a primary marine connectivity system.
Plan pricing is set by SpaceX and updated periodically. MaritLink provides current pricing at the time of your consultation and advises on the most cost-effective option for your specific vessel and sailing profile. For a detailed pricing breakdown see our Starlink Maritime pricing page.
Starlink Installation for Yachts
Installation quality determines long-term reliability. A poorly mounted antenna, exposed cable run or unsealed deck penetration will cause problems offshore — where there is no one to call.
Standard mount
Suitable for most sailing yachts and motorboats under 25m. The antenna is mounted on a rail, pushpit, radar arch, T-top or mast platform using marine-grade stainless steel hardware. Cable is routed internally through the vessel structure. Clean, no exposed runs on deck.
Integrated yacht installation
For 25–50m yachts and motoryachts where the antenna needs to be positioned at flybridge, hardtop or mast level. Full cable integration through the vessel's electrical infrastructure, network switch connection and — where required — separate VLAN configuration for guest, crew and navigation networks.
Superyacht discreet mount
For superyachts where aesthetics are a primary constraint. Options include radome enclosures from KNS, Intellian or Poynting, RF-transparent composite covers matched to the vessel's deck finish, and full mast integration with internal cable routing. The antenna becomes invisible without meaningful performance loss.
Coverage for Cruising Sailors
Starlink Maritime covers the main yacht cruising routes with consistent performance. Not all plans cover all areas — plan selection matters.
| Region | Typical download | Availability | Plan required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mediterranean Sea | 80–220 Mbps | >99% | Maritime Mobile |
| Atlantic Ocean (crossing) | 100–180 Mbps | >98% | Maritime Global |
| Caribbean (BVI, USVI, Martinique, Bahamas) | 80–200 Mbps | >99% | Maritime Global |
| North Sea / Baltic | 80–200 Mbps | >99% | Maritime Mobile |
| Pacific Ocean | 60–160 Mbps | >95% | Maritime Global |
